This Retreat is FULL
Wild Edges: Poetics of Sorrow
Thursday, June 8-Sunday, June 11
Marie Joseph Spiritual Center, Biddeford, Maine
On the cusp of spring blossoming into the fullness of summer, this workshop is an invitation into fruitful blooming, exploring how the presence and experience of sorrow is an essential nutrient in the soil of our being.
We will use the framework of the Five Gates of Grief explored in Francis Weller's extraordinary book The Wild Edge of Sorrow.
This retreat is not necessarily a time time for calling forth deep grief but time and space for wider reflection and discernment on how sorrow in its many shapes, asks us to pay attention, to practice opening and engage wonder.
Gate One: Everything we Love We Will Lose
Gate Two: The Places That Have Not Known Love
Gate Three: The Sorrows of the World
Gate Four: What We Expected and Did Not Receive
Gate Five: Ancestral Grief
Weller's five gates, a handful of curated poems, the numinous presence and wisdom of the ocean, along with times to gather in learning, shared reflection and ritual as well as plenty of time for your own rest and renewal will offer a more spacious way to understand loss and transition in our personal and collective lives.
This retreat is co-facilitated by Susannah Crolius, M. Div. and Maryann Joyce, Hospice Chaplain, both of whom have many years of training in holding spaces for deep grief of many kinds.
We intend this to be intimate space, so it is limited to 10 people.
In order that we shape a nurturing, safe and appropriately boundaried community for all participants, we ask before confirming your registration to please tell us via email a bit about yourself and why this retreat compels you at this time.
Marie Joseph Spiritual Center is an extraordinary place.
Quiet, peaceful, beautiful, it is steps away from a beach you can walk for miles on. The food is plentiful and delicious. The Sisters who run the center are funny, warm and kind. We have just learned that as of June 30, Marie Joseph Center will be closing permanently! This is a final opportunity to be in this magical place.
