Clay and Threshold: Explorations of Longing and Belonging October 11-14, 2021 Marie Joseph Spiritual Center Biddeford, Maine
The Marie Joseph Spiritual Center sits on the ocean in southern Maine. This magical setting mirrors the pace and intention of this 4-day retreat: a gentle ebb and flow of personal contemplative time, shared inquiry and creative response about the fundamental questions and experiences of what it means to be spiritual (Longing) and human (Belonging)--or is it the other way around? After a year of isolation, how are these things different? These are not questions of the mind but those of the soul, and so contemplative creative process--writing, art making of all kinds, beach sojourning, walking meditation--will be mediums for inquiry and discovery. You need not be "artistic" or "creative" in anyway, only curious. A variety of user-friendly creative materials will be available for you to engage with.
Selected recorded interviews and readings from Irish theologian John O'Donohue on the themes of Longing and Belonging will be the ground from which we will gather each day in shared reflection and conversation.
We will gather twice a day and participants will receive a "workbook" of sorts, with questions, prompts, and suggestions, inviting you into your own rhythms of time for rest, reflection, creativity and community.
Cost: There are two costs, one for the retreat itself; the other for room and board if you plan to stay overnight.
The Retreat itself is $120 for the week. *if you plan to stay overnight at the Center, the cost for 4 nights, with three meals a day is $350 plus the retreat cost of $120. Overnight retreatants have private rooms with shared bathrooms.
