Books Speaking Volumes: A Pilgrimage to the Yiddish Book Center in Amherst, MA Sunday, January 28, 2018 11:00am - 1:00pm
"I often went to the Yiddish Book Center when my soul felt shredded in pieces, and I always felt comforted and stronger. Perhaps the suffering of the holocaust victims and survivors and their strength touched me. I went to Yiddish theater once there and I remember one powerful line. " We know about suffering; we need to learn that life can be good." from an Art & Soul participant
As a new year begins, this sojourn appropriately takes us to a place where beauty, sorrow, resilience and hope are inextricably intertwined. Among the books that tell so many stories, the old photos and the memories is the call to re-member together that which is indeed, good and possible. If you have been to the Center before, come to see with new eyes. Join guides Susannah and Christian McEwen; We will gather at 11:00am; from there you will be invited to wander, pause, reflect, linger in the ways of pilgrimage both inside and outside the Center. We will then convene to share what we have encountered through conversation and written/drawn/sketched/other response until about 1:00.
Cost: $10 - 25. Note: there is an $8 admission fee into the Yiddish Book Center. If finances are prohibitive, you need pay only the admission fee. For those who can in addition to the admission, a sliding fee scale of $10-25is suggested.
