“Surely everyone is aware of the divine pleasures which attend a wintry fireside; candles at four o'clock, warm hearthrugs, tea, a fair tea-maker, shutters closed, curtains flowing in ample draperies to the floor, whilst the wind and rain are raging audibly without.”       ― Thomas D'Quincey

River Refuge:
Pilgrimage to the Montague Book Mill and The Lady Killigrew

Sunday, February 25, 2018     11:00am - 1:00pm
ref·uge
[ˈrefˌyo͞oj, ˈrefˌyo͞oZH]
1. a condition of being safe or sheltered from pursuit, danger, or trouble:
2. something providing shelter:

The river just outside the window. The old creaking wooden floors. The delicious smell of well-loved books. The nooks upstairs that beckon. I cannot tell you why this place is magical; I can only tell you that it is sacred ground, friends. Our February pilgrimage will lead us to the old mill on the river, where comfort is the name of the game, whether poking through stacks of gently used books, a cup of tea in hand, or the invitation of an knotty old table to write, draw, sketch or gather round.

You will be offered a focus question to ponder and then invited to slow down, saunter, notice, listen, letting the space tell you its stories. Is it the promise in all those books? The heartbeat of old building perched over the beautiful river? The comfy chairs scattered around like old friends? We will then convene  a cup of tea at the Killigrew  to share what it is we encountered in this holy space.

Gather outside the Book Mill at 11am. Sliding scale of
$10 - $25. We can get tea at The Lady Killigrew as we converse, inhabit questions and enjoy each other's company.
