MAGNIFICENT BEE-INGS
Date: Saturday, May 21
Time: 9:30-11:00am
Where: 479 Main Street, Greenfield, MA
Did you know that Demeter, the ancient Greek goddess of grain and agriculture, was addressed as “the pure mother bee?”
That the goddess Aphrodite’s symbol was a honeycomb?
According to Roman philosopher Porphyry, all bees were the souls of priestesses who had been in service of Aphrodite?
That the name Deborah means “queen bee”? The name Melissa means “bee?”
Join us in person as we explore the historical, mystical, metaphorical and symbolic threads between bees and the (divine) feminine. At 9:30 we’ll read selections from Sue Monk Kidd’s book The Secret Life of Bees as inspiration for the creation of your own bee/divine/feminine “icons.” Eclectic, user-friendly creative supplies will be provided.
Suited for those ages 12 and up. Pre-registration would be helpful: artandsoul.wm@gmail.com or 413-348-2385.
