"Love the wild migrations of your own imagination, and be grateful for every leaf you meet." (Mary Reynolds Thompson)
GREENING SONGS: A Biography of Self, Spirit, Earth Sundays, May 2 - July 25 1:00-3:00pm via ZOOM *come on the dates your schedule allows
As green bursts forth from fresh grass, infant leaves, moist moss, early- bird asparagus plants, and renewed vigor in our own hearts, we are reminded daily and gladly of what mystic Hildegard of Bingen named as "viriditas" or the vital, greening creative power of the divine.
What is this thing "spirit"? What exactly is "spirituality"? What's "soul" got to do with it? What is the shape of your soul? This series is an invitation to be inquire, explore, imagine, discover and perhaps even give some renewed shape to your "spiritual life." Our time will be spent in individual and shared inquiry, offering reflection, questions, conversation and imagination/reimagination, as we seek, name and claim the mystical, life-giving, renewing, greening spirituality that dwells uniquely within each of us.
We will work with images of different landscapes as metaphors for soulscapes--those terrains, seasons and cycles from which our sense of self both ebbs and flows as well as ripens and deepens over time. Sources will be many and eclectic, with Mary Reynolds Thompson's Reclaiming the Wild Soul: How Earth's Landscapes Restore Us to Wholeness as a loose framework for our conversations. You need not be "artistic," "creative," "spiritual" or "religious" to find this series meaningful.
