The Five Gates
Wisdom House or Mercy by the Sea or Woolman Hill or Genesis
Weekend: Friday, Saturday, Sunday OR mid-week Monday- Thursday
Francis Weller, whose book "Wild Edge of Sorrow" is the best book on grief I have read, offers that there are 5 different kinds or gates of grief we carry with us into our lives and into the world.
1. Everything we love we will lose
2.The Places That Have Not Known Love
3. The Sorrows of the World
4. What We Expected and Did Not Receive
5. Ancestral Grief
This workshop leans on the poetry of Mary Oliver to guide us in personal and communal exploration of these 5 gates as they make themselves known in our own lives. Our purpose is to re-imagine grief in its many forms, and, if possible, to re-story it, seeing it as an integral part of our story of how the spirit moves and lives within us.
