The walls of the Center are painted a deep, earthy red color. It was there when we moved in. Early on, someone in the building said --half-jokingly--"you'd better not change that color..." Why would we when it feels like we are deeply ensconced in a womb?
This monthly in-person series is an invitation for women to gather, share and creatively explore different aspects of how the spirit speaks through the feminine voice and body.
5:30-6:30 guided-but-fluid conversation and shared food
6:30-7:30: Time with the creative muse
Schedule:
June 15: Image/Imagine: Come meet the ancestors, the goddesses, the many Marys, the Saints, and other feminine images that have been tamed, ignored, disdained, reviled (there are so many buried or forgotten images).
This is a gathering for women to re-member, discover/rediscover and celebrate feminine spirit.
July 20: Word/s Re-storyied: Feminist Midrash
Though they are often in the shadows of Hebrew and Christian sacred texts, their voices, their stories, are there.
Midrash is a Jewish rabbinc practice of reading between the lines of a story and investigating what else might be part of this story. This is a gathering for women to practice midrash, that they might carry this practice into all stories told about women. We will work with three stories: 1) together as a group we will choose a story and flesh out the story, her-story, 2) we will work in dyads on another story, and 3) you will spend some time alone with a woman from scripture and dialogue with her.
August 17: The Poetics of Midlife
If we aren't too busy pleasing everyone else, we may begin to notice changes to our bodies, our emotions, our priorities, our longings and desires. This is a gathering for women who are on a cusp of what has been to what might yet be. It is a time of initiation into deeper meaning; an invitation into a more authentic self.
September 21: The Empty Nest: Menopause, Empty Nesters, Grief, Possibility
It is an end. It is a beginning. It is liminal time of experiencing what is mother/mothering/nurturing/creating.
Maybe you have children that are soon leaving the nest. Maybe, for a variety of reasons both chosen or unchosen, your life did not include children. This is a gathering for woman for whom the notion of "mothering" is shape-shifting.
October 19: Wisdom
This gathering for women of all ages who both seek what it means to be wise and those who wish to share what has made them wise over the course of time. There is what is lost, real and percieved, in the process of ageing (and there is a lot) and there is what is gained as our being is transforming (and there is A LOT!)
You are welcome to participate in one or more of this series. However, space is limited for each session. A brief phone or ZOOM conversation with Susannah is requested before confirmation in any of the sessions.
