teaching
From the Relic-Query art installation at the Wild Goose Festival, Harmony, North Carolina
Art is soul medicine, inviting healing, giving voice beyond the boundaries of words, teaching us about mystery, give us room to live in paradox. Creativity enlarges our capacity to see the holy at work in the world.
For me, the lines between spirituality and creativity are intimate, blurred, timeless. Ancient drawings on cave walls. Music making. Singing. Dancing. Storytelling. Poetry. The spoken rhythms of sacred texts. Painting. All these creative expressions speak to the essential questions, stories and experiences of our common—and unique—human stories.
The workshops and retreats I offer are fluid explorations into this intimacy between spirit and creative process. The toolbox from which I draw is large and diverse: wisdom from many spiritual traditions, contemplative practices, ritual, and a wildly eclectic array of art materials to work with. For thirteen years I have trusted again and again the magic of creating gentle, nurturing space, the power of inspiring materials and the freedom to simply be open to what arises in the process.
A sample of some collaborators I have worked with:
-Chaplaincy Institute of Maine (CHIME), Yarmouth, ME
-Springfield College Art Therapy Department, Springfield, MA
-Smith College, Northampton, MA
-School for International Training, Brattleboro, VT
-The national Reimagine Campaign
-The Bombyx Fellows Program, Florence, MA
-Wild Goose Festival, Harmony, North Carolina
-Retreat centers throughout New England
-Social service and community organizations
-Many faith communities
-Public Schools
