IMAGO DIVINA
a pop up event celebrating the sacred feminine
August 15 - September 15
Saint, Paron Saint of, Our Lady of, Sister, Mother, Goddess, Creatrix, Wisdom.
She goes by many names. Culturally, Her-storically, spiritually, you'll find her: sculpted figures, fertility statues, talismans, santos, icons.
In celebration of the extraordinary power of female bodies, hearts and wisdom, art + soul/The Center for Spritual Imagination invites you to participate in a late summer pop-up project: to re-story an image of the sacred feminine.
We will leave it to you to discern what you understand by "sacred" and "feminine." Between August 15 and September 15 you are invited to create a visual feminine form--a santo, an icon, a painting, a doll or any visual image. She/they can be small, medium, large, a painting, clay, mixed media, collage, assemblage, a shrine, photograph, self-portrait, fiber art, anything visual. You can create her in 5 minutes or over weeks. Your Imago Divina does not have to be complicated, intricate, "beautiful"or "professional." This is folk art, and you, lovelies, are the folk in the art. And then name her. What is her power?
This project is, first and foremost, a personal expression to connect with and feed your feminine soul. And, if many of us create these images, together it becomes community and celebration. For those who want to, your image/saint/icon will be included in a group show for the month of October at the LAVA Center in Greenfield, Massachusetts, which is featuring art + soul art for the month as part of our fundraising event.
I'd love to know if you plan to be a part of this project:
artandsoul.wm@gmail.com. And please, share this with your friends. We can't have too much powerful feminine energy!
You can show your piece or have your piece for sale during the October art auction event. If you live far away and want your imago divina to be included in the show, you are welcome to ship it or take pictures/video of it and it will be shown on screen during the October 16 fundraising event.
