You use a glass mirror to see your face; you use works of art to see your soul. George Bernard Shaw
Breathing Together: Art/Spirit/Human Conspiring
a four-week series, Thursday mornings, 10am-12:30 September 6th,13,20,27
[*note: a Wednesday or Thursday evening 4-week series could be possible if there are at least 5 people interested. Please let me know if you prefer an evening series.]
The root of the word "conspire" means to breathe together. In this series, art, memory and imagination intersect, conspiring together to unpack, heal, reclaim or discover images of the divine. We will lean on depictions of God/divine/spirit in artwork to get the exploration going, looking at different images and representations each week. These will be jumping off places for our personal and shared reflections as we seek to articulate a relevant and life-giving theology or spirituality that holds the beauty and complexity in the act and practice of living.
This is an radically inclusive, loving and freeing space in which to explore what can be a sensitive topic . Those who are wounded, ambivalent or confused by religion are most welcome. Those who left church a long time ago but still seek, you, too, are welcome. Artists--and those who think they are not at all creative-- interested in the relationship between art and spirituality, we'd love to have you join us. Suggested Sliding Scale: $15-40 per session; pay what you comfortably can.
The Nest @ First Churches is located at 11 Center Street, Northampton, MA, on the second floor. Regretfully, at this time, this space is not easily accessible for those with mobility issues. However, if this series is something you are definitely interested in and you do have mobility challenges, please do let me know, and I can potentially make arrangements for another space.
